This is a great collection of short stories and happens to include the
story that inspired the film "The Illusionist," staring Edward Norton.
It was this story that made me a Millhauser fan and I believe this
collection of stories better showcases the author's talents than his
pulitzer prize winning novel, Martin Dressler. While this is
not a group of stories that appeals to conventional tastes, its
speculative exploration of human nature and human wonder should appeal
to the inquisitive and the adventurous. While your expectations
will not necessarily be sated with comforting outcomes, your mind and
your imagination will be challenged with many surprises.
